Low Single Leg with wrestling tips

Posted in Wrestling Takedowns with tags , on October 16, 2009 by wrestlingtips
  • If you lead with your right foot then you will shoot for your opponents left leg and visa versa.
  • Once you clear his hands and you have an open shot then lower your stance and take a deep penetration step with your lead foot
  • When you take that step your foot will be on the outside of your opponents leg- and just like the double leg you should be on your knee momentarily till you get a hold of his leg
  • Also instead of grabbing around his knee like with a high single leg, you are going to lock around his calf
  • So at this point you are on your knees and your arms are locked around your oppenents calf, and your opponent should still be standing
  • So now whatever calf you are locked around you want to work your way to the side of that leg your locked around. So instead of being in front of your opponent locked on his leg, you want to be to the side of your opponent.
  • Now drive your right shoulder into his knee to drop your opponent to his knees
  • When this happens you can let go of his calf and do whatever you want since you will be behind him

Wrestling Tips

  • Like you should always do, make sure you have an open shot before going for his leg. So you want to clear his arms from in front of himself. For more detail on this just view the double leg takedown.
  • Make sure you have a tight lock on your opponents calf. If you dont then he can just pull his leg out from your grasps and guess what you will still be on the ground and he will still be standing so now he can sprawl on you and try to get some points.
  • When you go to take your opponent down put a lot of pressure using your shoulder on the back of your competitors knee. This will help not only get him to his knees but also keep his focus on trying not to fall instead of trying to escape.

High Single Leg- with wrestling tips

  • If you lead with your right foot then you will shoot for your opponents left leg and visa versa.
  • Once you clear his hands and you have an open shot then lower your stance and take a deep penetration step with your lead foot
  • When you take that step your foot will be on the outside of your opponents leg- and just like the double leg you should be on your knee momentarily till you get a hold of his leg
  • From there you grasp your hands together around your opponents knee
  • Then as you lift his leg in the air and you come to a standing postition put the side of your head into his ribs
  • To finish you can do a few things. One thing is a sit back. To do this slide your grip from your opponents knee to his upper thigh. Then sit down on your right hip while also driving your head into his stomach/chest backward. The other finishing option you have is to just trip your competitor foreward. So once you have your opponents leg in the air use your right foot if thats your lead and trip him above his right knee. Also drive him forward at the same time.

Wrestling Tips

  • Make sure you have an open shot. Most wrestlers will shoot regardless, and if you do that then you will find that your opponent will sprawl and then can spin around you and get the takedown. So make sure he is open before shooting.
  • Also when you have your arms locked around your opponents leg make sure you keep a tight lock and keep your head close to his body so you can keep constant pressure on him.
  • Lastly when you have his leg in the air dont just stand there while you attemp to take him to the mat. Always keep moving around so your opponent will be more concentrated on keeping his balance and not on trying to escpae.

Double Leg Takedown and Wrestling Tips

  • First off start by grabbing your opponents wrists, and then throw them apart in opposite directions so you have an open shot on your opponent without his hands in front of himself
  • Lower your body- by bending your knees
  • Step between his legs with your lead foot and then drop to your knee with this leg till your ready to finish the move
  • Also your shoulders should be over your lead foot
  • Grab his legs, one in each hand at either his knees or thighs
  • If your lead foot is your right foot your head should go on the outside of your opponents right side and visa versa is your lead leg is your left leg
  • Since your ready to finish you can stand back up on your lead foot and pick up your opponent using your legs- not back. Also drive with your head into his side to get him off his feet and now he’s off the ground and you can take him down to the mat.

Wrestling Tip:

  1. In the second to last step when it says “if lead foot is your right foot your head should go on the outside of your opponents right side and visa versa” remember when your in the last step and going to takedown your opponent push your head into his side and take him down in that direction. So if your head is on his right side, then you will take him down to your right, not to your left. I always see kids try to do it the opposite way and cant because then you have to throw your opponent over your head and they always get stuck.
  2. Always lift with your legs! It will be easier then trying to do it with your back and if you lift with your back you have higher chances of getting injured.
